UNI-T UT8805E Performance-Series Bench Digital Multimeter is a 5½-digit auto-ranging True-RMS meter.

This instrument features 0.015% basic DC voltage accuracy, a 5,000 rdgs/s maximum reading rate, and a 199,999-count display on a 4.3in 480×272 TFT-LCD. SCPI over LAN, RS-232 and USB makes the UT8805E a clean drop-in for automated test setups.

For R&D measurement and small-lab production test where SCPI automation, four-wire (Kelvin) resistance, dual display, and the full math/dB/dBm/Pass-Fail suite matter, the UT8805E delivers the performance jump from general-purpose bench DMM to instrumented test station. Four display modes (Number, Bar Graph, Trend Graph, Histogram), thermocouple and RTD temperature measurement, and 10,000-reading internal storage are standard.

UNI-T UT8805E Details

5½-Digit Display and 0.015% Accuracy

The UT8805E delivers a 5½-digit 199,999-count display with 0.015% basic DC voltage accuracy. DC voltage resolution reaches 1μV and DC current resolution reaches 1nA — meeting the spec floor required for low-signal R&D measurement, transducer-output characterization, and reference-source verification. Resistance measurement resolution is 0.1mΩ.

Measurement Function Coverage

Measurement coverage includes AC/DC voltage, AC/DC current, resistance, four-wire resistance, capacitance, diode, continuity, frequency, duty cycle, temperature (thermocouple), period. Capacitance measurement extends to 2 mF. Frequency counter range is 20 Hz – 1 MHz.

True-RMS AC Measurement

True-RMS AC measurement delivers correct readings on distorted, non-sinusoidal waveforms — switching-mode power supply outputs, motor-drive currents, dimmed lighting loads, PWM signals — where an average-responding meter would read low. AC voltage and AC current measurements are both True-RMS.

Dual Display

Dual display shows two parameters at once — voltage with frequency, current with frequency, or any compatible primary/secondary pairing — without toggling between menus. For diagnostics on AC sources, switching supplies, and motor drives, this lets you watch the primary measurement and its frequency simultaneously.

Math, Statistics, and Pass/Fail

Built-in math includes max/min/average tracking, standard deviation, relative measurement (REL), dB and dBm operations, and configurable limits. Pass/Fail comparison automatically flags out-of-tolerance readings and sounds an alarm. All math operations apply across voltage, current, resistance, capacitance, frequency, and temperature.

Four Display Modes

Four display modes adapt the on-screen presentation to the measurement task: Number for a clean primary reading, Bar Graph for quick visual go/no-go interpretation, Trend Graph for time-series behavior, and Histogram for distribution visualization on repeated samples. Switching is a single-key operation.

4.3-inch TFT-LCD with 480×272 Resolution

The 4.3-inch TFT-LCD displays the full 199,999-count primary reading with secondary parameter and unit annotations at high legibility from typical bench viewing distance. The digitized analog bar graph beneath the primary reading supports rapid trend interpretation when the measurement is changing slowly.

5,000 rdgs/s Maximum Reading Rate

Maximum reading rate is 5,000 rdgs/s on the UT8805E. For automated test sequences this means short loop times when stepping through measurement steps under SCPI control. For high-resolution characterization, the same reading rate supports averaging-based noise reduction without slowing the test cadence.

Four-Wire Resistance

Four-wire (Kelvin) resistance measurement eliminates lead and contact resistance from low-resistance readings. For shunt resistors, motor windings, contactor coils, PCB-trace resistance, and any measurement below approximately 100 Ω where lead resistance distorts the result, the four-wire path delivers the accuracy the digit count promises.

Temperature Measurement

Temperature measurement supports thermocouple sensors over the range -270°C to 1820°C with 0.5°C accuracy, plus RTD (thermal-resistance) sensor input for higher-accuracy laboratory measurements. A built-in cold-end compensator is standard, so external reference junctions are not required.

Connectivity and Remote Control

Four host interfaces: LAN, RS-232, USB-Host, and USB-Device. LAN supports VXI-11 for SCPI-over-Ethernet; USB-Device supports USBTMC; RS-232 supports established automated-test scripts and embedded controllers that don't have an Ethernet path. USB-Host accepts a USB flash drive for file import/export. SCPI command set is IEEE-488.2-style and compatible with the mainstream multimeter command set, easing migration from existing test code.

SCPI Command Set and Automation

The UT8805E accepts SCPI commands compatible with the mainstream multimeter command set, easing migration from existing test scripts. Configuration and triggering via SCPI is supported across all measurement functions. Firmware updates are free over the product's lifetime; license unlocks for any future optional features have no expiration. Measurement results return as ASCII or numeric blocks per SCPI conventions.

FAQ's

How does the UT8805E compare to other models in the UT8800E series?

The UT8805E is the entry of the Performance cohort: 5½-digit precision, 5,000 rdgs/s maximum reading rate, full SCPI automation over LAN/RS-232/USB, four-wire resistance, dual display, math/statistics, and 10,000-reading internal storage. For higher resolution (6½-digit), faster reading rate (10,000 rdgs/s), and larger storage (32 Gb NAND Flash), step up to the UT8806E. For GPIB connectivity, see the UT8806EG.

What instrument-control libraries does this multimeter support?

The UT8805E responds to a SCPI command set compatible with the mainstream multimeter command set, with VXI-11 over LAN and USBTMC over USB-Device. It works with pyvisa, industry-standard VISA implementations, LabVIEW Instrument Control, MATLAB Instrument Control Toolbox, and equivalent controllers. RS-232 is also available for established automated-test scripts or embedded controllers without an Ethernet path.

Is the UT8805E factory-calibrated, and how often does it need recalibration?

Yes — every UT8805E ships with a factory calibration certificate. The recommended recalibration interval is once per year for metrology-traceable measurement applications. For routine workbench use where the meter is being used for relative comparisons or go/no-go checks against known references, longer intervals are acceptable. Recalibration is performed through Uni-Trend or an accredited third-party calibration laboratory.

What probes and accessories ship with the UT8805E?

The UT8805E ships with the standard probe and lead set appropriate to its measurement range, a power cord, the USB-Device cable for PC connection, the included software disc or download link, a user manual, and the factory calibration certificate. For four-wire (Kelvin) resistance measurement, dedicated four-wire test leads are recommended for low-resistance accuracy and are available as an accessory. Verify the included contents against the packing list on delivery.
