Capacity and Readability

Capacity is the maximum load a balance can weigh. Readability is the smallest displayed increment. Choose enough capacity for the sample and its container, with readability appropriate to the smallest weight differences you need to evaluate. Readability alone does not establish measurement accuracy.

Tare and Sample Preparation

The tare function subtracts a container’s weight so the display shows the sample’s net weight. Keep the combined container and sample weight within the balance’s capacity, even after taring.

Consistent Weighing Conditions

Place the balance on a stable, level surface away from drafts and vibration. Allow readings to stabilize and follow the manufacturer’s warm-up instructions. Keep the weighing pan clean and center samples consistently.

Calibration and Data Recording

Follow the manufacturer’s calibration procedure using suitable reference weights. For electronic records, confirm that the balance, interface cable and software are compatible. The collection lists Excel data acquisition software and a USB-to-RS232 interface cable.
