The Sper Scientific Open Channel Flow Meter calculates water flow from measured liquid level and the level-to-flow relationship of a compatible measuring weir.
Applications include wastewater discharge points and municipal sewer channels.
The wall-mounted ultrasonic open channel flow meter measures water level without contacting the liquid. A sensor transmits ultrasonic pulses toward the water surface and measures the time taken for the echoes to return. The meter uses this distance measurement to determine water level, then calculates flow using the level-to-flow relationship for the configured weir or flume.
The display shows instantaneous flow rate, accumulated flow and water level. Non-contact measurement keeps the sensor away from wastewater, reducing exposure to contamination and corrosion. Accurate flow measurement requires a compatible measuring structure, proper installation and suitable free-flow conditions.
This method is used to monitor water and wastewater flow in open channels, including wastewater treatment plant discharge channels, industrial effluent outlets and municipal sewer systems. Accurate results depend on proper weir installation, correct level measurement and selection of the appropriate flow calculation.
